Yesterday I worked on my cover and changed it to this:
Today I realise that it is too dark and looks like its a depressing rainy day. In our class critique Caroline agreed and also pointed out some inconsistencies of my layout and type which I have now adjusted.
I have lightened the cover and also removed the shapes from the back so that it isn't as heavy:

Spare Spread
I've been working on my spare spread which I originally thought about doing a page on how to take a panoramic photo, but it was far too complicated, so instead I have decided to put the history of each location.
tri coloured links to spreads |
I'm still deciding between the last two, whether or not to have the images overlaid with colour.

Map
Started working on my map, trying out different ways to make it fit with the visual style of my brochure. I tried overlaying shapes into the map but it became too complicated so I think I need to simplify it more.

Collages and layouts
Have developed collages for Pencarrow and Mt Vic. Set on a style now and have also laid out two spreads. I tried at first to use indesign but it was too difficult to learn it in time for class so I had to do it in photoshop for now.

Researching
Found a new artist model Marissa Passos whose work is simple and clean. Have been learning quite a few photoshop tools from the internet which is helping me to create my collages.

Collages
Started researching artist models & started experimenting with some collages but everything is turning out crap tonight. Tried making some in photoshop but I am struggling as I haven't used it very much.

Index, Icons, Symbols etc.
Missed class last tuesday and fell behind. Done a little bit on my icons, index and symbol but am a bit confused. I have also copied some text from websites about my locations, that I can edit to use in my brochure later on.

Mt Vic & Cable Car
Today I went to the Mt Vic and Cable Car lookouts.
Initially I was concerned they might be too similar as they are both quite central Wellington locations, however I am now able to see the differences more clearly.
At the top of Mt Vic the view is incredible, and feels like you are distanced from central Wellington, because of the town belt. It is obviously different again from Pencarrow as it is touristy and is paved with concrete and accessible by road.
The cable car lookout is very central, and very developed, especially with the new covered area. The view and location itself is very built up and man-made. Unlike the other two lookouts there is still the feeling of being enclosed, and in the city.
I now feel much clearer about the defining features of each destination.

Pencarrow
Ive decided my destination set is Wellington lookouts, so today I biked to Pencarrow lighthouse south of Eastbourne. Biking into a southerly wind on my way there, I got a feel for how exposed it is to the elements. The view was great in every direction, looking out to wellington harbour, cook strait, the South Island and a lake and hills behind.
I took a lot of photos on my way and did some drawings at the top. Also took photos of signage boards for factual info and journey times etc.
Choosing Destinations
Forgot about blogging my progress. Whoops! I'll fill in whats happened so far...
I came up with a list of options in our first class and later narrowed it down to either swimming spots or lookouts.
I preferred lookouts and so began choosing three destinations. I've chosen Pencarrow lighthouse and the lookout at the top of the cable car as the first is out of the way and the other is very touristy and easy to access.
Im undecided on the third location, as there are a lot of possibilities eg: Makara windfarm, Mt Kaukau, Mt Vic, or the lookout at the top of the Wainui hill.
